Please join us on June 2, 2011 for a chance to learn more about NCGV, meet members from across the state, and support our mission to reduce gun violence in North Carolina.

We need your help!  In 2010 North Carolina lost more than 1,000 people to senseless gun violence.  Across the country we lost 30,000 people.  The tragedy and bloodshed in Arizona, the lives lost and people wounded there, got everyone's attention and provided a horrible example of why we need safer, more sensible gun laws.  But the opposite is happening in North Carolina.  The new leadership in our legislature now propose to lessen the requirements for gun ownership, eliminate criminal prosecution if one shoots someone out of "fear," allow elected officials to carry concealed weapons, subject employers to potential criminal prosecution if they do not allow employees to keep concealed weapons in their cars in employee parking lots and allow people to carry concealed weapons in restaurants, state and city parks and even college campuses.

However, in the midst of the odorous legislation being proposed in Raleigh and Washington DC, we at NCGV keep working, and have produced tangible results that directly reduced gun deaths and injuries this past year.  In 2010 NCGV strengthened our commitment to preventive programming and sensible legislation.  We have been working with groups throughout the state to educate young people and parents on the warning signs of potentially violent behavior and teaching them about what they can do to help prevent it.   We have worked with children and parents to teach about peaceable solutions for children subjected to bullying.
